Pinctada

Pinctada fucata is the scientific name of the Akoya oyster, which produces lustrous and  beautiful pearls. 
 The Akoya is the original cultured pearl.  It happens to be the very one that Mikimoto worked diligently in developing.  Each one of these oysters contains at least one pearl that is superior in size and quality.  The colors range from a glistening white, to champagne pink, to a glamorous lavender, to the very prized and highly  valuable black pearl.
